Lewis was a dominant sprinter and long jumper who topped the world rankings in the 100<span typeof="mw:Entity" id="mwIA"> </span>m, 200<span typeof="mw:Entity" id="mwIg"> </span>m and long jump events frequently from 1981 to the early 1990s.
